A new update was released for the alternative Android launcher, Action Launcher Pro and includes a creative way to launch apps. The new feature, called "Shutters", lets users launch apps right from the homescreen with a simple downward swipe of its icon.
There are several launchers to choose from in the Play Store and to stand out from the rest, Action Launcher Pro offers a unique user experience. Its existing feature "Covers" makes app shortcuts also function like folders. When double tapping a "cover", the contents of the folder are shown.
The newly introduced "Shutters" feature requires Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to use due to Android API limitations. This new feature lets users "supercharge" their Android widgets.
"I think widgets are one of the most unique, yet chronically underutilized features of Android. This is my attempt at allowing users to unlock the full power of Android widgets," said Chris Lacy, the developer of Action Launcher Pro on his Google Plus page.
Other standout features include a sliding quickbar that lets users access their apps instantly and also a quicksearch feature located on the action bar. The update brings Action Launcher Pro up to version 1.5.1 and this new version offers full tablet support, including the Nexus 10 tablet and some other cool new changes. Stability improvements were also made to the app for a smoother feel.
To make the transition to a new launcher smoother, Action Launcher Pro incorporates an import feature so users can pull their same launcher layout from other launchers. The import feature works with Apex, Nova, TouchWiz and the stock Android launcher. To get a sample of what Action Launcher Pro can do, check out the video below.
