Samsung Galaxy S2 AT&T owners on Alltel started getting the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update and now reports indicate that AT&T Galaxy S2 owners are getting an Android update, but not the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.
Some owners of Galaxy S2 reported on XDA-Developers Forums that an update by AT&T is rolling out on their devices while still running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, instead of updating to Galaxy S2 4.1 Jelly Bean like other US carriers, AT&T has retained it to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), a minor update.
"As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII. The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update. NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update," commented a member on XDA-Developers Forum.
U.S. carrier Sprint has already rolled out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its Galaxy S2 owners and now AT&T Galaxy S2 owners will not be happy to receive a small update and not the full Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
The software update brings a host of new features and enhancements to Galaxy S2 users' way, including performance and battery improvements to the phone. The update also brings features like Google Now, smoother UI courtesy Project Butter, refreshed notification system and more.
AT&T has not confirmed if and when the carrier will release the software update, but AT&T Galaxy S2 owners will hope to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update as soon as possible.
