HTC Prepping Windows 8-Powered 10.1-Inch Full HD Tablet

The booming tablet industry has enticed many companies to launch their own brands of tablets. Recently, Microsoft launched its first lineup of tablets and now reports indicate that Taiwanese company HTC is planning to launch a Windows 8-powered 10.1-inch Full HD tablet.

It will not be the first time that HTC will launch a tablet. In 2011, the company released two tablets — the 7-inch HTC Flyer and the 10.1-inch HTC Jetstream — but both the tablets failed to compete with the likes of iPad.

Now it seems the company plans to test the deep waters once again, but this time with a new operating system, Windows 8.

"Taipei, March 31 (CNA) Taiwanese handset maker HTC Corp. is expected to launch a new tablet computer running Microsoft's Windows software this year, according to market research and consulting firm NPD DisplaySearch," reports Focus Taiwan.

If rumors are to be believed, then the new HTC tablet may sport a 10.1-inch display manufactured by South Korea-based LG Display Co. with full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 218 pixels per inch (ppi). Reports suggest that the new HTC tablet may be assembled by Taiwanese contract laptop maker Pegatron Corp. Market observers also believe that the HTC tablet has already been in production since Q1 2013.

Apple revolutionized the tablet market with the launch of iPad in 2010, and since then it's been no looking back for Apple. The company launched the fourth-generation of the 9.7-inch ipad recently and rumors speculate that the fifth-generation iPad is on the anvil. Apple also launched the 7.9-inch iPad mini in October 2012 and the smaller tablet has also been a success.

iPad is currently the undisputed king of the bigger tablet market. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and more are constantly trying to give stiff competition to the iPad. It will be interesting to see if HTC's upcoming 10.1-inch can make an impact in the tablet industry.
