T-Mobile had a few smartphones with built-in 4G LTE radios, but they were not activated because the carrier did not support LTE at the time. T-Mobile recently announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 would be given a software update to enable its 4G LTE radio to run on the new network. That was great news to T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 owners. Nokia Lumia 810 owners were expecting something similar, since the smartphone has a 4G LTE radio that can work on T-Mobile's LTE network. Unfortunately, the carrier has put the kibosh on those dreams.
T-Mobile released the following statement to Tmonews regarding the situation:
"While the Nokia Lumia 810 features a chipset, which provides the hardware capability to support both HSPA+42 and LTE, the device will not automatically access our LTE network and, at this time, it will not receive an update to do so.
T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers' experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to device features and operating systems, and T-Mobile aims to deliver software upgrades when it will provide a better experience for our customers. We'll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 810 when they are available."
T-Mobile never made an official statement about the Nokia Lumia 810 receiving a firmware upgrade to enable its LTE radio the same way it announced that its Samsung Galaxy Note 2 would receive an update to enable the radio. But customers shouldn't be too upset with T-Mobile, they've still got a great smartphone that can run on the carrier's much larger HSPA+ network.
