Halo Wars 2 is adding card decks to the game. It's a new mode called "Blitz" and the first time that the RTS game will include cards in the gameplay.
Blitz Game Mode
The Xbox official new site describes the Blitz game mode as their latest twist to their long-time Halo franchise. The upcoming Halo War 2 will feature this "unique" card deck and RTS combo. Players don't need to gather resources during the game since the cards and faction leaders are all they need. A short video preview is available here. The cards also provide the soldiers, the boosts and attacks.
Beta Test Period
Co-developer Creative Assembly and 343 Industries will conduct a Multiplayer Beta period starting on Jan. 20 until Jan. 30. Participants will get the chance to try out all the game's faction leaders and Blitz cards. The beta tests are set on the Proving Grounds and features 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 matches.
Unfortunately, all the cards and contents as well as progress of the participants are not carried over. Players will have to start all over again when Halo Wars 2 is officially released. Beta participants though will receive a free card pack when they get the game's retail version. They get another pack once they complete a full match.
Halo Wars 2 Launch Date Details
Halo Wars 2 is coming out on Feb. 21, 2017. As usual, the upcoming Halo installment is only available to Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. The game also features single and co-op campaign modes. Aside from Blitz, HW2 will include Stronghold, Dominion and Deathmatch modes. As far storylines are concern, the upcoming installment will have a direct impact on the future of the series.
It's too early to tell if the card building and RTS mode will prove popular among Halo players. Fortunately, the developers will get the feedback once the multiplayer beta test starts.
