Xbox One S Versus Regular Xbox One: Is The New One Better?

Xbox One S is now out and comes in several packages. Should Xbox One owners and other interested buyers upgrade to this latest Microsoft game console or wait for Xbox Project Scorpio?

Xbox One S And Its New Features

First, the Xbox One S is almost a half smaller than the regular Xbox One but its processing power is slightly more powerful. The new Microsoft console has a native 4K Blue-ray player but it can only present a 4K resolution to video. Games however, can be upscaled to 4K much like the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro.

Xbox One S Comes In Several Packages

The Xbox One S generally has a white color but several special editions make it possible to get the console in various colors or themes. The most high-end S console out there is the Gears of War 4 limited edition. It's painted with the game's logo and has 2TB of internal storage and cost around $450. The cheapest Xbox One S bears the normal white color and 500 GB internal storage and will cost interested buyers around $300. The S console however, will be bundled with a game such as Battlefield 1 or Halo, according to the official Xbox One site.

Power Supply and 4K Support

Despite its reduced size, the Xbox One S has a built in power supply in contrast to the old Xbox One's ugly power block. One advantage of the Xbox One over the new PlayStation 4 Slim and Pro is the built in 4K UHD Blu-ray player. The One S console upscale video games to 4K at 6oHZ display thanks to its new HDMI 2.0a support.

Not Kinect But IR Blaster

The Xbox One S however, has ditch the Kinect port in favor of the IR Blaster. The latter is actually much efficient than the former since the S console can operate the TV, A/V, cable and satellite receivers. Those who prefer the Kinect will have to get a USB adaptor.

Conclusion

Those who currently own an Xbox One don't need to upgrade to the Xbox One S. First time buyers though, will find this console handy especially if they prefer watching 4K videos as much as playing games although it can also improve gameplay with its upscaled 4K resolution display.
