Nintendo's Livestream just concluded, revealing the much-awaited details about its upcoming console Switch. The hybrid system will be released worldwide on March 3 with a price tag of $299 alongside a few games. The presentation also showcased the capabilities of the Joy-Con and confirmed a lot of games that will be available sooner or later on the platform.
According to Director Shinya Takahashi, the Nintendo Switch system "inherited DNA" from the company's other hardware. Combining the controller-base system set-up from the NES, the portability of the Gameboy, the XY and L & R buttons introduced in the Super NES, the analog stick and Rumble from the Nintendo 64 controller, the handle from Gamecube, the touchscreen from Nintendo DS, the motion control of Wii's remote, and the gaming off-TV experience of the Wii U, Nintendo produced the Switch.
The standard Nintendo Switch bundle comes with the dock, the on-the-go platform, a grip for the controllers, wrist straps and two Joy-Cons, each of which can act independently of each other. Consumers can choose the package with the traditional-colored controllers or the other with neon blue and neon red Joy-Cons.
The Livestream event (featured below) delved more into the features of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, which features standard buttons like ABXY, home button, capture button and the analog stick that can also be pressed. When used horizontally, there are L and R buttons at the top, which are also used to connect the stick to the grip or touchscreen. Other features are the motion sensor, NFC reader/writer, accelerometer and gyro sensors.
The Nintendo Switch presentation also featured trailers of games that can be expected this year for the console. First off is called "1,2 Switch," which makes use of the unique features of the Joy-Con. It allows gamers to play not in front of the screen, but in front of each other to "fight" using the controllers.
Other games that were revealed include "ARMS," "Splatoon 2," "Super Mario Odyssey," "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" and "Fire Emblem Warriors." Titles from third-party developers were also announced, such as new installments of "Dragon Quest" and "Dragon Quest Heroes," "EA Sports FIFA" and "Skyrim." "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" trailer concluded the event.
There is still a lot of information missing, such as technical specifications of the Nintendo Switch console, but some may be answered at the Treehouse Event on Jan. 13 6:30 a.m. PT or 9:30 a.m. ET. According to the official website, the gameplay of "Breath of the Wild" and "ARMS" will be featured.
