In Switzerland, a woman had her citizenship application denied twice because her neighbors were annoyed at how "loud" she was with her advocacies on animal rights. It just so happens that inputs of the citizens are also a factor in their country to grand application for citizenship.
Vegan Woman Denied Of Application For Swiss Citizenship After Citizens Do Not Approve
42-year-old Nancy Holten is a Dutch national and has been living in Switzerland for over 30 years. However, her application for permanent citizenship for the country has been denied twice allegedly over the opinions of the members of her community, claiming that her advocacies on animal rights are too much for them to bear as reported by CNN. Since one of the requirements for the citizenship is for the applicant to be integrated and adopt him or herself in the way of life of the Swiss, their customs and traditions.
However, that is exactly where the people of the community have issues with Holten since she has not adapted into their way of life despite having been living there for 30 years already. Despite her knowledge on the requirements of the application to be a Swiss national, she continues to broadcast against the cowbells, hunting, other traditions and the like of the residents there. These activities are considered of high value to the people in Switzerand and having someone go to the ends of the earth to loudly broadcast against it definitely does not fit into their culture or way of life.
Woman Goes Against And Insults Values Of Swiss Nationals
There are many other Swiss values that she has decided to against, just prior to her application for citizenship. She decided to do all these on media, which has insulted the Swiss nationals at the very least. If she wants to be a permanent citizen of their country, she has to at least learn how to respect their values and traditions rather than loudly broadcast how much she is against them. Although she has met the criteria of being an official part of their community, she still does not meet the approval of the citizens which is a great factor in their application.
