A simple cosmetic surgery left a woman looking "like an alien." 54-year-old Carol Bryan from Florida had a collapsed forehead after a dermal filler went wrong.
Bryan started having Botox in her 30s for the vertical lines between her ears, Daily Mail reported. "It was amazing. It took years off my face," she said. And then she came to a point where she was losing some volume, and she wanted something more. A consultation persuaded her to have fillers.
Corrective Surgeries Only Created More Problems
According to Mirror, Bryan was persuaded to try a silicone treatment that would be permanent, but not long after, she noticed something wrong. Every time she looked at the mirror, she could see her face "expanding and contracting".
Her forehead grew heavier, until she can't even recognize herself anymore. It got to a point where she would tape her eyes open to be able to walk, but stayed hidden under hats and behind sunglasses because she was ashamed. "I felt like a monster," she said.
A UCLA Doctor Agreed To Help
She tried to have corrective surgeries, but this created more problems, and she became a recluse after she was "grossly disfigured". Turns out that two different facial fillers had been combined in the same syringe and injected into her face, resulting in major inflammation.
Her daughter and sister intervened and began writing to teaching hospitals all over the U.S. to ask for help. Dr Reza Jarrahy from UCLA agreed to take on Bryan's case. Dr Jarrahy was able to repair some of the cosmetic surgery damage, but Bryan had to go through many painful surgeries to rebuild her forehead.
Now, she is feeling more confident. "I'm extremely thankful for Dr Jahri who was the only doc in the coutnry who would take my case as it was unprecedented. Very high risk, unknown risk," Bryan said.
