Since its release, Overwatch has continued to accumulate a huge following. Its success can't only be fathomed by the awards it received last year, as there are more to these than what the fans are experiencing. From time to time, Blizzard releases brand new updates. These could be for the purpose of introducing minor fixes. Or perhaps, a much bigger picture, a new set of features and/or hero are coming. With Sombra being the latest to the roster, fans can't help but wonder: Is Doomfist next on the line?
Doomfist, despite being an unplayable character in Overwatch, isn't entirely a new thing in the community. That's because this hero has been featured already -- way before the launching of the game. His first appearance dates back to the cinematic trailer the studio unleashed in 2014. The video, however, only showcases the gauntlet the hero utilizes.
According to Inverse, it was never meant for Doomfist to be part of the overall Overwatch lore. Sure, he was there in the trailer; however, he's not designed to be a major player in the game. Think about him being at the right place, at the right time. Nonetheless, with his gauntlet (inside a payload on the Numbani map) being a huge thing in the game, it lead to vast opportunities.
Also on the aforementioned Overwatch map, there are three banners. Each of these features a different individual who, as obvious as it can be, are said to have carried the powerful name of Doomfist. And that's simply by wielding the gauntlet. The first one is called Adhabu Ngumi while the second one is Akinjide Adeyemi, the Savior and the Scourge, respectively. The third one is the most interesting of all. That's because it's unknown, only represented by a silhouette. Theory says that whoever this dude is will be the next hero for the game.
It's also worth noting that titular athlete-turn-actor Terry Crews has been a favorite in the Overwatch community. Almost all players with the fandom wants him to voice Doomfist. The craving eventually bloom when Crews shared a photo of him visiting the Blizzard HQ. As of this writing, though, the studio has yet to confirm anything about it.
