Square Enix has done a good job with rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise and giving old and new fans an updated Lara Croft. Rise of the Tomb Raider may have released back in 2015, but a new version of the game for the PS4 Pro is in the works, and the good news is, the demo is now available to try out.
According to the BitBag, the demo version of Rise of the Tomb Raider is available for download in North America, and it comes with a tagline that says, "Try before you buy with PS4/PS4 Pro demo Rise of the Tomb Raider." Last year marked the 20th Anniversary of the franchise, and an updated version of Rise of the Tomb Raider was released last October. The Anniversary edition came with updated graphics as well as several different skins for Lara including her 1996 polygon look from the first game.
DigitalFoundry has actually reviewed the 4K version of the game on the PS4 Pro, and he says that the game comes with its ups and downs. The updated version is said to play in a slower frame rate than the original, but it seems to be a problem with the 1.05 version of Rise and not of the hardware. He comments, however, that the developers are always keen on making improvements to the game, so this could be considered as a slight hiccup. He also notes that Rise of the Tomb Raider makes the best of the PS4 Pro's hardware, and this version could be the end-all edition that Rise has built up to.
Lara seems to be getting a refreshed popularity with gamers now, and with a movie currently in the works, Tomb Raider looks to be getting a steadily growing fanbase for years to come. Let's hope that Alicia Vikander does justice to this new Lara Croft.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: The 20-Year Celebration Edition is now available for purchase, and the demo can be downloaded here.
