Samsung is rumored to be working on a high-end variant of its Galaxy Duos smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy Mega 5.8.
The GT-I9152 or Galaxy Mega is speculated to boast a massive 5.8-inch display and will strengthen Samsung's portfolio of smartphones for 2013, along with the much-rumored Galaxy Note 3 phablet.
The follow-up to the successful Galaxy Note 2, the Galaxy Note 3, is slated to release in the second half of 2013 and will pack in a much-improved S Pen stylus.
Here we take a look at what lies under the hood of the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Note 3:
Processor
Per rumors, the Galaxy Note 3 will likely house the powerful Exynos 5 octa-core processor (a combination of two quad-core processors: a 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A15 and a 1.2GHz Cortex-A7).
The Galaxy Mega 5.8 is slated to house a dual-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz.
Form Factor
The Galaxy Note 3 is speculated to measure 84.9 x 161.9 x 8.9 mm when compared to the Galaxy Mega's 164 x 83.8 x 9.7mm dimensions, making the Note 3 shorter, wider and thinner than the former.
Weight-wise, the Galaxy Note 3 will be 220 gms, whereas the weight of the Galaxy Mega is not known.
Display
The Galaxy Note 3 will sport a 6.3-inch OLED or LCD screen (which could be flexible) and a pixel density of 350 ppi. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 will likely have a smaller 5.8-inch qHD TFT display. The Galaxy Note 3 betters the Galaxy Mega 5.8 with a higher pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 vis-à-vis 960 x 540.
Camera
The Galaxy Note 3 will feature a 13 or 16-megapixel front-facing camera, which routs the rumored 8-megapixel snapper on the Galaxy Mega 5.8. Moreover, the Note 3 will likely have the S Orb feature for 360-degree shots.
Both the smartphones will likely pack in a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper. Some speculations also hint at a 3-megapixel secondary camera for the Galaxy Note 3.
Memory
The Galaxy Note 3 will come with 16/32/64GB on-board storage and possibly a 128GB one. The smartphone will also have the option to expand the memory (to an additional 64GB) via a microSD card. The on-board storage for the Galaxy Mega 5.8 is not known, but it is likely that the smartphone will come in 16/32GB options.
The Galaxy Note 3 will likely boast 2GB or 3GB of RAM, whereas the Galaxy Mega is expected to have 1.5GB of RAM.
Operating System
The Galaxy Mega 5.8 will likely come with Android 4.1.2 or Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Samsung's Nature UX on top. By contrast, the Galaxy Note 3 may come with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie out of the box.
Battery
A 2600mAh battery is expected to power the Galaxy Mega 5.8, whereas the Galaxy Note 3 could boast a much more powerful 3300mAh or 4000mAh battery.
Availability
The Galaxy Note 3 is widely rumored to debut at the IFA 2013 in September, whereas the Galaxy Mega 5.8's release date is not known.
