Samsung Galaxy X: Specs, Features And Release Date Of Samsung's Foldable Phablet

The South Korean tech giant is said to be working on a foldable phablet for many years and it's going to be named as Samsung Galaxy X. Here’s what we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy X foldable phone and tablet in one plus its release date.

Samsung Galaxy X: A Foldable Phablet

Not just Samsung, but also Lenovo and LG have each showed off bendable displays and devices at various industry events. They also have registered many patents for the said technology. According to PCAdvisor, previously called Project Valley, Samsung’s technology has become known as a gadget was called as Samsung Galaxy X, which may or may not be its eventual name upon its release.

A rumored foldable phone is exactly as it sounds. A device that either folds inward (like a clamshell phone) or outward and reveals a tablet-like device when stretched out. Meaning, when the phone is not folded, its size is like a table. This is possible with the use of a bendable, rather than flexible, OLED panel. And this feature is said to be seen on the most anticipated phablet, the Samsung Galaxy X.

Originally, Samsung worked on fold-in smartphone devices, which close up just like a wallet but having completed its work there it has moved on to fold-out phones. These should be more convenient for the user, who wouldn’t need to unfold the phone every time they wanted to use it.

Samsung Galaxy X Specs And Features

The Korean Herald reported that the Samsung Galaxy X phone will fold outward as opposed to in on itself. When unfolded, the handset will transform into a working 7-inch tablet. Aside from that, it is also said that the Galaxy X's screen resolution is expected to be 4K, that is 3840 x 2160 pixels. This is to ensure that it remains high-res when folded or stretch.

The Samsung Galaxy X could also feature a dual-camera at the rear part of the smartphone, and one of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, that is most likely now the Snapdragon 835. There should also be a microSD card slot, but the battery will not be removable. For that battery part, I don't know if it is a good or bad news.

Samsung Galaxy X Release Date

A year ago, Sammobile reported that Samsung's Project Valley would not be available globally at its launch, but that the UK and Ireland, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Nordic countries, France and Poland were on the list. Samsung hopes that its foldable phone, named as Samsung Galaxy X, will be unveiled in the third or fourth quarter of 2017 and the company will ship more than 100,000 units of the said phablet.

According to Digital Trends, LG has more advanced outward folding technology compared to Samsung, though the LG G5-maker may let other companies tap its technology rather than use it for its own products. Regarding on its release date, it is speculated that both South Korean tech companies will unveil each foldable gadgets on the same month, and maybe on the same date.
