No Batman movie is coming out this year, but Warner Bros. Games' Montreal studio will be more than willing to give gamers their fill. Batman: Arkham Origins was announced on Tuesday for the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. No mentioned was made of the PS4 or Xbox 720.
Does that mean the new title won't hit the PS4 and Xbox 720 at all? At this point, we're not sure if that's the case or if the announcement is simply being held off until further notice. Either way, current console owners can expect to find Batman: Arkham Origins in stores on Oct. 25.
Batman fans can also get an extra dose of the caped crusader this fall, since a completely different title will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita. Dubbed Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, the Metroid-inspired 2.5D title will also be available on Oct. 25. Interestingly, it's being developed by Armature Studio, which was created by a number of designers who worked on the Metroid Prime trilogy, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
"Batman: Arkham is a huge triple-A videogame franchise and we are delighted to expand the experience with Batman: Arkham Origins," said Martin Tremblay, president, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, in a press release. "WB Games Montréal has an incredibly talented team building upon Rocksteady's award-winning gameplay and technology to deliver a deep, immersive, quality experience fans will love."
"WB Games Montréal is honoured to have the opportunity to create Batman: Arkham Origins, a new chapter in this amazing franchise," said Reid Schneider, vice president and executive producer, WB Games Montréal. "We are huge fans of the franchise and are committed to creating an experience that offers players more of what they love, as well as the chance to play as a younger Batman within a fresh storyline and expanded world."
The news was broken by Game Informer, which will feature the games in a cover story for its May issue.
