Nexus 7 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update (SlimBean Guide)

If your Nexus 7 has been longing for an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the SlimROM team has good news for you. SlimBean Build 3 ROM for Nexus 7 adds a number of features that are not a part of the official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, including: LED notifications for calendar events, SuperUser, expanded desktop tiles and a "clear all" button to free up RAM.

Preparations

NOTE: This Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update guide is intended only for Nexus 7 users with a rooted device that have already installed ClockworkMod recovery.

Before loading the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean SlimBean ROM, first make sure that the latest Nexus 7 USB drivers are installed on your computer. Next, backup your Nexus 7 and make sure it's charged to at least 80 percent.

Before proceeding, enable USB Debugging Mode on your Nexus 7 by navigating to Menu -> Settings -> Applications. Select the Development option, then enable Debugging Mode.

How to install Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean SlimBean Build 3 on Nexus 7

Step 1) Download the custom SlimBean Build 3 Android 4.2.2 ROM for Nexus 7. The ROM for the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi version can be found here. The Nexus 7 3G version is here.

Step 2) Download Google Apps here.

Step 3) Copy the downloaded files to the Nexus 7 using the SD card.

Step 4) Disconnect your Nexus 7 from the computer, turn it off, then boot it into CWM recovery by holding down Volume Up, Volume Down and the Power button together until the device powers on.

Step 5) Do a Nandroid backup of your current ROM in case anything goes wrong.

Step 6) Wipe all data by navigating to 'wipe data/factory reset.' Once this is done, go back to the CWM recovery menu and select 'wipe cache partition.' Finally, once this is done, navigate to Advanced options and select 'wipe dalvik cache.'

Step 7) Navigate to 'install zip from sdcard' followed by 'choose zip from sdcard.' Select the SlimBean Build 3 ROM using the power button and confirm the selection.

Step 8) Once the ROM is installed, repeat steps 1-8 to install the Google Apps package.

Step 9) After everything has been installed, return to the main recovery menu and navigate to 'reboot system now.' This will take a few minutes.

Once your Nexus 7 reboots, you are officially running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean SlimBean Build 3. Kudos.
