The Galaxy Note 2 remains king of the phablet world; others have tried to push it from its throne, but it is a huge success. The only other phablet that seems worthy of being its true successor in terms of features is bound to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be announced at IFA in Berlin Sept. 6 - 11. It's time to take a look at how the Galaxy Note 2 compares to some reliably sourced specs we've received over the past few months.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 features a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 resolution. It's a big, bright and sharp screen that makes using the Galaxy Note 2 very enjoyable. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is rumored to feature a new flexible and unbreakable display. The Galaxy Note 3 is expected to go for an even larger screen than the Galaxy Note 2. It will reportedly have a 5.9-inch 1920 x 1280 Full HD display.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 features Samsung's 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos CPU, which gives the phablet a fast and smooth feel when using all features of the Galaxy Note 2. Intense games, HD video streaming and more benefit from having this processor on board. The Galaxy Note 3 is rumored to have a similar processor to the international variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It is expected to sport "an Exynos 5 octa-core processor, which combines two quad-core processors: a 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A15 and a 1.2GHz Cortex-A7."
The Galaxy Note 2 is currently running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, which is very snappy on the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung has added some extra S Pen features that make the Galaxy Note 2 feel more like a day planner on steroids in many ways.
The Galaxy Note 3 will almost definitely ship with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Google is expected to show off the latest version of Android in May at Google I/O. Since the Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be released in September, we can only hope Samsung will take the time and ship the phablet with Key Lime Pie.
It's pretty safe to say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be an even bigger success than its predecessor. We'll have to wait until September for the Galaxy Note 3's official specs, but as we saw with the Samsung Galaxy S4, many of its rumored specs were the real deal.
