New Screening Process For Checking Prostate Cancer Through MRI Scans Have More Chances Of Correct Identification

Prostate cancer has been one of the biggest concerns of men along with ageing, since it is very common among them to be diagnosed of such. Thus, there has been a new test developed that will be easier for the patients to be diagnosed.

New MRI Scanners Provide More Accurate Captivity Of Prostate For Those With Symptoms Of Prostate Cancer

It has been reported that there are new procedures being conducted that will be more efficient in detecting the massive tumors, avoiding the patients from getting biopsies that could be unnecessary. This has been considered as a major step forward in the diagnosis, which involves merely the use of MRI scans. In the said procedure, a special type of MRI is going to be used, widely known as the multi-parametric MRI scanners. Four types of images will be combined that will build up a much more detailed picture of the prostate. This will then allow the doctors to get a much clearer picture of the prostate to see what they are working with.

Greater Percentage Of Success Rate With New Device Compared To Traditional Method

With the use of the previous traditional method, there has only been a 47 percent success rate in the proper diagnosis of the disease. However, with the new procedure being implemented, there will be 93 percent sure success rate in the ability to pick up the aggressive cancers. In the old method, patients with a high level of a certain protein that is associated with prostate cancer will be subjected to biopsies that involve massive use of needles. Even then, the cancer would not be successfully identified. Thus, the new procedure is definitely a great help in the diagnosis and avoid biopsies that will put the patients in even more pain.

These biopsies and tests that will be taken from them could lead to many side effects, including bleeding, infection and as well as erectile dysfunction. However, due to a shortage of scanners, only a small amount of men all over the world are eligible for having the procedure done. Nonetheless, there have already been investments in producing and rolling out more machines of such to increase the number of men to be able to have the simple procedure done to them.
