Daft Punk Random Access Memories To Debut In Tiny Town Wee Waa

Daft Punk is known for nothing if not being two of the wackiest French robot electronic musicians in recent memory. Now the music duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter has decided to give its forthcoming album, Random Access Memories, a public debut via a characteristically unique method: launching in a tiny town no one has hardly ever heard of.

Australia's Wee Waa may be known as the "Down Under" nation's Cotton Capital, but it's also truly miniscule, with a population of only 2,100. Daft Punk nevertheless confirms that its global launch for Random Access Memories will be held in Wee Waa on May 17.

"Daft Punk's Random Access Memories will thunder out from a purpose-built stage at the fairground as the sun sets," msnNOW says of Daft Punk's odd choice of an album launch during Wee Waa's annual harvest festival.

Random Access Memories will be the first full-length album released by Daft Punk in nearly a decade, with their last record 2005's Human After All. It's rumored that special guests on the album include the likes of Animal Collective's Panda Bear and Demis Roussos.

As for why Daft Punk decided to launch Random Access Memories in Wee Waa — aside from it being particularly strange, which, along with creating kick-ass music is one of the band's singular MOs, some would say — but it might be related to a special feature of Wee Waa.

"The government-owned telescope at Wee Waa has six humongous dishes that can receive radio waves from deep space, so you can bet the French dance duo are taking these tunes intergalactic," msnNOW speculates.

"Thousands of fans are expected to join the locals at the annual show in Australia's cotton capital — about 8 hours from Sydney in north-western NSW, for the first playback of the Random Access Memories album in the world," news.com.au says,

Along with hearing music from the "French band," Weewaa.com suggests folks check out the annual harvest festival's "pet show, showgirl competition, cross cut saw competition [and] fireworks."
