In past few years, Nintendo has not been terribly good regarding on approximating and predicting their successes and failures. The NES Classic Edition suffers from the stock shortage, will the Nintendo Switch will also suffer from this problem?
How Sure Nintendo That Switch Units Will Not Suffer From Stock Shortage?
In the interview with Wired, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will have 2 million units available worldwide at its launch, and downplayed fears of stock shortages.
From what I’ve read, the concern seems to stem from the lack of ability to buy NES Classic. So what I would say is this: Two million for essentially the first month is a huge number, especially when you look and see that this is not peak seasonality. This is essentially the first three weeks of March.
Regarding this is good news, it may not be entirely accurate, as online stores such as Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy as well as Walmart have completely sold out of the most awaited Nintendo Switch pre-orders. Let us hope that Nintendo is telling the truth that they will be enough stock of this hybrid game console units for all the people who wants to own it will be satisfied.
Our focus is making sure that the consumer who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch. That’s how we build our supply chain, that’s how we think through the amount of product that’s available.
Reported Stock Shortage Of The Nintendo Switch Units
As reported by iDigital Times, the Nintendo Switch presentation took place last January 12 and information regarding the release date and pre-order information was unveiled regarding the upcoming hybrid game console. However, a new report says that a low number of units will be made available to GameStop stores.
According to GoNintendo’s source, a majority of GameStop stores will have such a small number of Nintendo Switch console units available in March of this year. In particular, GameStop will have only 20 units to sell in-store. Yes, that is right, 20 units only, which will likely be the average number of system units available around the country.
The Nintendo Switch will soon be in high demand, according to Forbes. But the unit will not be endangered species scarce at launch. Let us believe that Nintendo has learned lessons from their recent stock shortages which have dominated the news for 2 to 3 months, but Nintendo and learned lessons don’t go together terribly often.
Nintendo Switch Confirmed Games
The Nintendo Switch's launch lineup grows online again today, as Square Enix has confirmed that its RPG I Am Setsuna will be available for the system at release on March 3, according to GameSpot. Previously, I Am Setsuna was confirmed only to launch for Switch sometime in March. The Switch launch lineup could continue to grow between now and release in March, but it's unlikely there will be as many launch titles as there were for Wii U, which had 23. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime recently spoke out to stress that launch is "not the be-all and the end-all."
Along with I am Setsuna, onMarch 3 additional game titles are 1-2-Switch, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth†, Just Dance 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Skylanders: Imaginators and Super Bomberman R.
