Tekken Producer Takes Subtle Jab At Street Fighter

Street Fighter and Tekken are two of the biggest franchises in the fighting game genre today. With Street Fighter celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, and Tekken 7 getting a release in June, Tekken franchise director Katsuhiro Harada comments on the release date of Tekken 7 and the mistakes they are trying to avoid upon release.

In a recent interview, Harada talks about the delay on Tekken 7 and why fans will have to wait until June contrary to the earlier announcement that the game was going to be released early 2017. "We were trying to do everything we could to make that date happen... maybe to scale down on the content in order to make the master release, but in the end we came to the decision that [after] seeing releases from other companies, as well as some of the past of our own... we made a very difficult decision of moving it to June to include all of the original content that we'd originally planned," said Harada.

According to the Bitbag, the company that Harada could possibly be referring to is Capcom when it released Street Fighter V. Upon release, the game was met with several complaints like missing features and only a handful of characters. Though fans may have been a bit pacified with the Shadows Fall DLC and the appearance of some new playable fighters, it may be a while before Street Fighter V hits all the sweet spots that fans want out of the game. Hopefully those will come with the teased "surprises" that will be coming sometime around E3 2017.

As for Tekken 7, pre-ordering the game will get players a bonus character by the name of Eliza. Though she originally debuted back in 2013's free-to-play installment of Tekken Revolution, the character has been revamped anew for the upcoming game.

Tekken 7 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One is set for a release on June 2, 2017
