Fisker Karma, Ferrari 458 Among Sea Gate Police Department's Pricey Fleet

A Fisker Karma with a price tag of $116,000, registered to the Sea Gate Police Department, was spotted parked in Manhattan on Friday, only a day after a Ferrari 458 with a $300,000 price tag was seen downtown parked in a no-standing zone, also registered to the SGPD.

The Fisker Karma is the preferred vehicle of child-megastar Justin Bieber and it certainly boasts an impressive spec sheet. It features a Chevy Bolt-like electric engine that delivers 52 MPG on a full charge and will go for 32 miles without expending a single drop of gas. While the Fisker Karma might be a bargain in terms of fuel efficiency, it's doubtful that reduced gasoline costs will fully defray the car's $116,000 price tag — presumably paid for with tax dollars.

The Gothamist, reported the news only a day after publishing a similar story in which the car in question was a Ferrari 458 with a price tag of $300,000, also registered to the SGPD. Between the Fisker Karma and Ferrari 458, the total price of SGPD-registered luxury vehicles spotted just in the last two days totals $416,000.

The Sea Gate Police Department is a private police force wholly separate from the NYPD, with full arrest authority and jurisdiction in the gated Coney Island community of Sea Gate. The department was created in 1899 — a year after the Brooklyn Police Department was absorbed into the NYPD.

The Fisker Karma, on the other hand, was unveiled in 2008 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and the first two cars were delivered to American buyers in July 2011. The Karma is the first vehicle designed by Fisker Automotive, headquartered in Anaheim, Calif. with its production center located in Finland.

The Fisker Karma has a price tag starting at $102,000 and the top-end model (the one apparently spotted in Manhattan) goes for $116,000.
