It's hard keeping up with the news. Even if we limit ourselves to the technology and science worlds there are so many reports within a single day that even the most dedicated reader is bound to miss numerous important, interesting, or just plain weird revelations.
The situation isn't any different here at iTech Post, where so many stories are published even our staff can have difficulty keeping up with reading them all. That said, we've decided to do you, our reader, a favor and compile some of the most talked-about and interesting stories right here.
At the end of each week, our Hits & Misses column brings you two lists of articles that are worthy of your attention. "Hits" is pretty self-explanatory, as it includes five of our most popular pieces from the last week. "Misses," meanwhile, will contain noteworthy and quirky articles that weren't quite as popular, but are worthy of your attention anyway.
Hits
1. After Google purchased Motorola, it was largely expected that the search giant would start manufacturing its own phones. There's been nothing but speculation since, and the newest rumors point to the Motorola X phone being loaded with impressive specs.
2. Will the Xbox 720 be revealed in May? Will Sony have another PS4 event to steal Microsoft's thunder? Lots of video game rumors made the rounds this week, including some related to the Xbox 720's price.
3. Someone in Argentina is pumping ferrets with steroids, making them look like Toy Poodles and selling them. Yup.
4. The newest VH1 reality show is called The Gossip Game, and even though it just premiered people are already getting hooked into its drama. This week was all about which star was the better journalist, believe it or not, as cast members took to Twitter to duel each other.
5. Is Microsoft getting ready to unleash a Surface Pro 2 and a Surface "Mini" tablet? Rumors say yes, and we took a look at the five things Microsoft needs to do to make the Surface sequels a success.
Misses
1. Generally, we think more carbon dioxide being trapped in the Earth's atmosphere is a bad thing. And it is. No one is quite sure what will happen, but scientists announced this week that at least one creature might be adapting to the situation in an interesting way.
2. Everyone's wondering what Psy will do to follow up 2012's breakthrough hit Gangnam Style, but you won't have to wait much longer. His second international release will be titled Gentleman, and it's already online.
3. The year 2013 is going to be an above average one for hurricanes if the latest predictions are true. Scientists say that 18 will form this year (and usually the numbers are higher than the predictions), with the chances of a major hurricane hitting the U.S. coast at 72 percent.
4. NASA's long-term goal is to send humans to Mars, but in order to make that happen the agency needs to make the trip feel less like torture. Using current technology, it would take four years to get there, which sounds like the worst road trip ever. The plan is to build a rocket that could make it to Mars in one month.
5. You go out for the night, eat at a delicious restaurant, get exposed to a little Hepatitis A. Typical New York City outing, right? Wrong. Wash your freakin' hands, people.
