Though the "Conan the Barbarian" reboot may not have been as well received when it came out in 2011, the lore lives on, and Funcom has developed a survival game based on the universe in Conan Exiles. A cinematic trailer has been released for the game, and early access is said to be available come Jan. 31.
The clip actually features Conan himself, but he's only there to liberate the supposed playable character who is tied to a cross. The pair are then attacked by a pack of demon dogs, and once they defeat them, Conan leaves his weapon to the main character, and the clip ends with the words, "Survive. Build. Dominate."
According to Game Rant, though the game is called Conan Exiles, players won't actually get to take control of Conan the Barbarian. Instead the players will be taking control of their own custom made "exile" character, and they will have to survive an environment full of dangers and other players who want to kill them as well.
The developers at Funcom have said that Conan Exiles have a lot to do with "tracking down food and water," and at the same time, the game will bring the player to a world with a "dark history and buried secrets." Pretty much sounds like what players can expect from a world centered on "Conan the Barbarian."
With the survival element in mind, some may think that Conan Exiles could be at the same vein as other survival games like ARK: Survival Evolved and Mad Max. Though players will not get to play as the lead hero, Conan, there's still a lot of fun to be had with the world - what with the hunting and the ability to construct unique civilizations.
Early access for Conan Exiles is set to be available for the PC this coming Jan. 31, and an Xbox One game preview is set to come on spring.
