Reebok Drops Rick Ross Over 'Molly' Date Rape Rap

Hip-Hop artist and Maybach Music Group CEO, Rick Ross just lost a deal with Reebok over some controversial lyrics featured in a new song. The song is called "U.O.E.N.O" and is from the mixtape, Gift of Gab 2, of fellow hip-hop artist, Rocko. Ross recites lyrics on the song that suggests he promotes date rape. "Put molly all in her champagne/She ain't even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that/She ain't even know it," Ross rhymes during his feature on the song.

"Molly" is a slang term used to describe the pure form of a chemical found in the drug Ecstasy known as methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). The National Institute on Drug Abuse describes MDMA as a psychoactive drug that causes one to experience feelings of euphoria and emotional closeness towards others. Based on the content of use in the song, Ross is talking about taking advantage of a woman by slipping drugs into her drink.

As CNN reported, Reebok released a statement regarding the date rape lyric and the way Ross has responded to the controversy.

"Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so," Reebok said in a statement.

During an interview with a radio station in New Orleans, Ross was asked about the controversial lyrics and said, "Woman is the most precious gift known to man. It was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation. The term rape wasn't used. I would never use the term rape in my records," Ross said.

In protest of Ross, protesters from UltraViolet, an activist group, picketed outside of the Reebok store in Manhattan. Reebok was also petitioned by the group to sever its deal with the MMG CEO.

"While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse. At this time, it is in everyone's best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr. Ross," Reebok's statement revealed.
