Netflix For Android Smartphones Got A New Feature That iPhone Will Never Have

Netflix for Android devices has just gotten a lot better, thanks to the new simple feature addition to it.

Netflix For Android Smartphones Got A New Feature

Netflix for Android smartphones will now let you download any movies as well as TV shows for your offline viewing. You can also store your downloaded files directly on the microSD cards of your smartphone. You just need to buy a few high-capacity microSD cards to have a memory of up until 256GB. With that, you can download all of your favorite shows so you have them with you on the go and watch them anytime.

A representative from Netflix told Engadget that Android users can even download content to multiple SD cards. "However, there are limits to how many simultaneous downloads a member can download at one time, along with limits on how long a download will remain accessible," the representative explained. "This ensures that the feature is being used for its intended purpose."

According to BGR, the downloaded shows on the can only be played on the Android device were they originally downloaded it to. That move is likely meant to prevent piracy and for the user's privacy. To use the new feature directly on your Android smartphone, just update your Netflix app to the latest version and you can start browsing and downloading your favorite movies and TV shows.

Netflix’s New Feature Is Nowhere To Be Found In The iPhone Version

Two days ago, Netflix US announce on Twitter that Android users can now download movies and TV Shows directly to their SD Cards.

Android Users – You can now download to your SD card so there's always room for more.

Since an external is involve in the said new feature and because Apple iPhone devices are unlikely to add a microSD slot anytime soon, Apple fans will be stuck with only the internal storage for their Netflix experiences.

Unfortunately, Apple iPhone doesn’t support expandable storage, and it’ll probably never will. But at least both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with extra built-in storage if the user needs more space for Netflix downloads. On Android, you will now be prompted to choose where to save your downloads, either on Device Storage or the microSD card inside.

The Apple iPhone 7 has storage choices 32, 128 and 256 GB while the Apple iPhone 7 Plus has storage choices 32, 128 and 256 GB.

Not All Android Devices With A MicroSD Card

There were complaints that people, especially Android users, couldn’t save enough shows on their smartphone. Not all Android handsets with a microSD card slot will work, according to Netflix.

However, there are certain products on the market that add microSD support to iPhones via the lightning port such the Lexar plug-in as well as Apple’s even more cumbersome version. But realistically, they don’t offer a long-term solution.

According to BGR, there’s a simple $22 accessory that plugs into the Lightning port on any iPhone or iPad and instantly adds microSDXC support for cards up to 256GB. Dump your photos and videos off your iPhone, play music off the card, or pull a card out of your digital camera and view your images right on your iPhone. All it takes is the Lexar microSD To Lightning Reader.
