Overwatch's Chinese New Year event called Year of the Rooster brings the game's version of the classic Capture the Flag. While aiming for the enemy's flag, you have to protect your team's. That's why teamwork is essential here. Right up there with teamwork is your choice of heroes. Which one should pick?
Overwatch Capture The Flag Offense: Winston
Winston is great at attacking, sure, but where he really shines is in capturing the flag and then leaping away with it. His ult allows him to sprint across the map while carrying the enemy's flag. Make sure the other heroes can keep up to defend him from attacks.
Overwatch Capture The Flag Offense: Tracer
Tracer is one of the best heroes out there if you want mobility. If you're on the offense, you will want a hero who is fast above all but also has great abilities to attack the defense or to bypass it. With her Blink and Recall, she really is a more sensible pick for Capture the Rooster (aside from Winston, of course).
Overwatch Capture The Flag Offense: Soldier 76
Another one that can go in quickly, take the flag and run back is Soldier 76. He has the Sprint ability that can carry him to any point in an Overwatch map, which is exactly what we need in the offensive team.
Overwatch Capture The Flag Offense/Defense: Mei
Mei is a really really slow character, but that doesn't mean she's not good for offense. She is a great attacker, but her ult allows her to be invaluable in both the offense and defense teams. She can lock down the flag area, which can hold off attackers whether you're locking down the enemy or your team's flag.
Overwatch Capture The Flag Defense: Symmetra
Symmetra has turrets. Need I say more? Use those to your advantage to alert yourself of any attacker and also to shred said attacker. Should any hero manages to capture the flag, you can quickly take that hero down even for fast heroes. Pair that with her ult for a great tank.
Overwatch Capture The Flag Defense: Torbjorn
Coupled with Symmetra is Torbjorn for the same reason: turrets. Other than that, his armor packs can't be hacked by Sombra. He is often paired with Symettra for this very reason and any team with this combo will make it harder for the enemy to capture the flag.
Overwatch Capture The Flag Counter: D.Va
The enemy team has both defenders? Not to worry as you can pick D.Va to counter them. Use her ult to wipe out the immobile turrets of Symmetra and/or Torbjorn and even other heroes. Use this to then rush in to capture the flag. Don't forget to use her Defense Matrix Shield to protect D.Va and teammates from incoming attacks, which I assume will be a lot if you're in the flag area.
The Capture the Rooster mode is only available for the game's Chinese New Year event. Overwatch's Year of the Rooster is live until Feb. 13 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox one.
