Samsung's latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, is set to get a new rival — the Pantech Vega Iron. Per reports, more details of the bezel-less Vega Iron have surfaced online and the leaked invitation from My Drivers hints that the smartphone will launch this Thursday, April 18.
The Pantech Vega Iron is being touted as the Galaxy S4 killer and is set to pull the rug out from underneath the Samsung smartphone's feet. Recently, details regarding Pantech's impending flagship smartphone had popped up online and now the device has a name, the Pantech Vega Iron.
"According to foreign media broke the news, Pantech, South Korea's third largest mobile phone manufacturer, will next week launch an ultra-narrow quad-core the Android flagship Vega Iron," reports My Drivers (translated).
"Korean phone maker Pantech are getting ready to launch something very special this week. The Pantech Vega Iron is rumoured to be the phone to beat all and a true Samsung Galaxy S4 rival," reports GizChina.
According to the leaked invitation posted by China-based site My Drivers, the Vega Iron's design will be narrower than that of the Galaxy S4. The smartphone will allegedly be just 7.9mm wide as opposed to the Galaxy S4's 8.8mm. This would likely be achieved by using the "bezel-less" design that was rumored earlier for the 5-inch HD screen.
The smartphone will likely tout a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel primary camera, a 2150mAh battery and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Reports suggest that the design will be similar to recent Nokia devices; however, we'll have to wait and see what surprises Pantech has up its sleeve.
The South Korean smartphone maker is quite popular in the region and Pantech surely hopes that it can translate this success on a global platform as well.
