The rumored Motorola X phone is scheduled to be the first device to come out of Google's acquisition of Motorola, but outside of massive amounts of speculation, there's very little we know about the device. Could there also be a Motorola X tablet?
At the All Things D Dive Into Mobile conference in New York City, Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt was asked about Motorola's next set of devices. Here's what he had to say:
"They have a new set of products, which are phenomenal," he told Ina Fried and Liz Gannes at D: Dive into Mobile Tuesday. "Very, very impressive."
That's not much to go on at all, and so Fried and Gannes tried harder. They asked Schmidt if the Motorola X line-up consists of phones or tablets (or both, for that matter), but his answer was possibly even less helpful than saying nothing would have been.
"Think of it as phones-plus," Schmidt said.
Basically, Schmidt is saying that Google's next Motorola phone is going to be awesome. Surprise!
So what does "phones-plus" mean, exactly? In the past, rumors have suggested the Motorola X phone would be customizable, so could that possibly tie into it somehow?
There have also been rumblings that the Motorola X unveiling has been delayed. Some expected Google to show it off at May's I/O conference, but now Phone Arena's anonymous sources claim the device won't make an appearance until August. The X Phone was described as a set with a 1080p 4.7-inch display and a very thin bezel.
Other rumors, meanwhile, suggest the 4.7-inch is real but that the resolution is actually 1280 x 768 and buffered by a Gorilla Glass 3 screen. It's supposed to be waterproof up to 30 minutes and pack a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core Krait 400 CPU.
None of this has been confirmed, though, so don't believe it 'til you see it.
