Android Key Lime Pie Features, History: Where It Comes From

It hasn't even been officially named by Google yet, and still everyone is dying to know anything and everything about the next Android iteration, Android 5.0.

Android Key Lime Pie, as we're all calling it (imagine what will happen if Google opts to go with a different name upon unveiling?), should be boasting some pretty amazing features and will likely be revealed at long last in May at Google's I/O conference, along with plenty of other Google goodies (including, likely, the first device that will be running with the chimerical OS).

There's definitely a question, though, of what exactly Android Key Lime Pie will do once we've got it. Android Jelly Bean is already a pretty slick OS, and so what can we expect from Android Key Lime Pie that we don't have already?

This is why we're delighted that Kinvey, a mobile backend development firm, has taken to the 'Net with a truly amazing infographic that quite literally shows the entire development of Android from 2008's Android 1.0, all the way through Android Cupcake, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Android Jelly Bean and right up to the unreleased Android Key Lime Pie.

What's particularly killer about Kinvey's informative infographic is its inclusion of the great features that have come with each Android iteration. Although it's mostly speculation and rumors at this point (again, we don't even know if it will be called Key Lime Pie!), the graphic includes features of Android Key Lime Pie.

"Kinvey says it expects Key Lime Pie will offer new performance profiles, presumably for better managing your processor's toll on battery life, tighter social media integration, the ability to keep your text messages in sync across multiple devices — that would be huge for Android tablet/smartphone owners — enhanced multi-device support, the ability to enter in codes for app previews or free installations, and built-in video chat," TechnoBuffalo says, adding, "To be fair, Google Hangouts already offers a built-in video chat option, but perhaps Google can introduce a more seamless offering."

Kinvey, for those who don't know, is the same firm that also created an infographic for the development over the years of iOS. The company even has some fascinating comparisons between iOS and Android over the years that lead us right up to Android Key Lime Pie.
