Doomsday Clock: More Catastrophes Lurking This Year

If the infamous doomsday clock is to be believed, mankind is facing imminent danger that threatens its survival. For the last two years, the minute hand of the Doomsday Clock has maintained a three minute position before the hour. This is the closest it has been to midnight since the 1980s.

The Science and Security Board warned in two of its most recent annual announcements that the probability of global catastrophe is very high. Therefore, they strongly suggest and urge that the actions needed to be taken to reduce and alleviate the risk of disaster must be taken the soonest possible time. This year, the team found that the danger threatening mankind has become higher in risk.

Thus, they are calling for an effective and responsive solution in the matter. They tackled that the doomsday clock already indicates that it is two and a half minutes to midnight, and the clock continues to tick. This means that global danger continues to loom.

According to Doomsday, the Science and Security Board is now calling on all concerned public officials to take the necessary steps to act on the matter immediately. They also said that these officials must guide humanity and lead them away from the brink. They also warned that if such critical actions have not been undertaken, it is up to wise citizens to take a step forward and lead the path towards change.

However, Wired said that all the threat related to doomsday is mere paranoia, and things aren’t as bad as they seem to be. They also outlined that the factors that may have influenced the change included the darkening of the global security landscape. This also included US President Donald Trump's perspective on nuclear arms, his perception of climate change, and the rise of strident nationalism worldwide. On the other hand, new findings on global warming also gave scientists the impression that the phenomenon can now be better understood.
