Samsung Galaxy Note users in Canada who are on the carrier TELUS will soon be able to get a taste of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, according to reports. The long wait for Galaxy Note users on TELUS could well be nearing its end, as the carrier is expected to push out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in May.
TELUS has updated its impending software update schedule, which reveals that the Galaxy Note's testing status is "manufacturer testing" and the device will get the update in May 2013.
"The long road for the Samsung Galaxy Note upgrade to Jelly Bean just might be over. TELUS has updated their 'Upcoming software updates schedule' and is pegging sometime in May for the original Note to receive OS 4.1," reports Mobile Syrup.
In February, the update schedule page released by TELUS showed that the Galaxy Note was slated to get the Android 4.1 OS update that month. However, the carrier failed to live up to its promise, so there's no guaranteeing that the current estimation will hold true.
The Galaxy Note is not the only Samsung device offered by the carrier that will get the Jelly Bean update. The Samsung Galaxy Rugby LTE and Galaxy S2 X users are also slated to get the Android 4.1 update in the coming weeks. LG's Optimus G is also in line for the same.
However, nothing is written in stone and the fine print says "Expected dates are estimates and are subject to change." Given TELUS' track record, the carrier could well delay the April and May deadlines.
If TELUS does stick to its estimation, then subscribers of the Galaxy Note will finally be on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The software update will bring a slew of new features and improvements. The Galaxy Note will benefit from features like Google Now, Direct Call, Smart Stay, Multi-view and Pop-up Play with the new update. Moreover, the notification bar also gets an overhaul and will come with more toggle switches.
With May not too far away, let's hope TELUS is not crying wolf and does not end up disappointing Galaxy Note owners yet again.
