Google Fiber TV Gains HBO and Cinemax Channels

Google Fiber TV may still only be available in the Kansas area, but members can now at least stay caught up on Girls, Game of Thrones and the new series Banshee.

Three new packages became available on April 16 for the service.

“Jon Snow. Hannah Horvath. Sookie Stackhouse. If any of these names ring a bell for you, then you’re going to be very happy to hear that we’ve just added HBO to our TV lineup,” the Google Fiber team said in an official blog post announcement.

The HBO package is $20 per month and includes six different HBO channels (HBO, HBO2, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Latino and HBO Zone).

“And, for those of you who are holding out for Cinemax, today is your lucky day, too,” the post continued.

The Cinemax package is half the price at $10 per month and includes eight channels (Max, MoreMax, ActionMax, ThrillerMax, WMax, @Max, 5-StarMax and OuterMax).

However, there is also a fourth option.

“If you really love TV and want both of these add-ons, we’ve just launched our new premium package, which you may want to consider,” they said.

The premium package, priced at $40 per month includes HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and STARZ. That means in the fall you get to make the choice between Boardwalk Empire and Homeland for your Sunday night viewing.

These packages became available yesterday.

This comes off the heels of Game of Thrones breaking its own ratings record this past Sunday night. The third episode of season three raked in 4.7 million viewers during its initial 9 p.m. airing. After a second airing later in the night, that number climbed to 5.8 million.

The season three premiere garnered 4.4 million viewers, but still ended the night higher with 6.7 million after two repeat airings followed it.

Google Fiber is currently available in Olathe, Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

Austin, Texas is next in line to receive the service, announced back on April 9. Public Radio International describes it as a “city-wide high speed internet project.”

The television service of Google fiber costs $120 per month. One Gbps is $70 per month.
