The recent issue of Famitsu, a Japanese magazine, has included an interview with Hajime Tabata. The Final Fantasy XV director revealed an interesting piece of information including a preference to have a Final Fantasy XV PC port soon.
Gematsu said through a translation that Tabata was asked by Famitsu about his thoughts on the game's releases in other platforms. He answered that he would want to have the PC release of the game as a technical attempt.
According to Attack of the FanBoy, Tabata said that he is interested in showing PC users how Final Fantasy XV runs on high-end machines. He added that he wants to personally see how it would look like as well. This is because high-end PCs are way more capable in terms of hardware and software, as compared to the current generation of consoles wherein the game is made available for.
He also made mention about their interest in developing the game for PC for the purpose of having a first-hand experience in developing PC-exclusive features like custom quest and mod development. This modern Final Fantasy release on PC was just a pipe dream long ago, however Square Enix might have already discovered an available market with this platform since they have already started releasing both new and old titles from the franchise since 2013 on Steam.
As of this time, all main games of the Final Fantasy series are available for purchase on Steam except for Final Fantasy I, II, and XII. This also includes some sequels like the whole XIII trilogy and Final Fantasy X-2. Therefore, seeing a Final Fantasy XV PC release is not at all surprising as well as undesirable. Final Fantasy XV was first released last November 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was able to generate positive reviews from its critics, thus gaining an average score of 82 on Metacritic.
