It's true that many parents juggle parental duties and work. Cellphones are important tools of communication, but a day care in Texas strongly advise parents to not be on their phones when picking up their children.
"You Are Picking Up Your Child. Get Off Your Phone!"
According to Fox News, Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz was picking up her children at this day care outside Houston on Friday when she saw a new welcome sign at the door saying: "You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!! Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child??"
The sign cited a specific example of a mother neglecting her child, and the school share a strong opinion about the action, WHIO said. "We have heard a child say, 'Mommy, Mommy, Mommy ...' and the parent is paying more attention to the phone than their own child. It is appalling," the sign went on.
Some Parents Agree With The Sign, But Not Everyone Share The Same Sentiment
Farris posted a photo of the sign on Facebook, and it has been shared more than 1 million times. Farris said that she thought the sign was funny and relevant. She added that she has seen parents on the phone, but maybe not to the extent that the staff does, but she also said it needed to be addressed. "The day care is awesome. They are very loving and obviously have the best interest of the children in mind." She added that the school's business is their children.
But, some parents do not agree with the school's sentiments. Janise Warren said that she would remove her child from the school. The sign is right, she said, but that is just not how you treat another person, "especially one paying your salary." Another parent, Kirstin Ramsey, said that some people have to work on their phones, and that clocking out of the office doesn't mean the work day is done.
