Samsung revealed the Galaxy Tab 8.0 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event earlier this year and recently launched the tablet in the U.S. Now the Korean company has also launched the tablet across the borders in Canada.
"We are very excited that Canadians can now experience the Samsung GALAXY Note 8.0 - the perfect tool for multi-tasking on the go," Paul Brannen, Vice President, Enterprise Business Group, Samsung Canada said. "Due to the convenience and mobility, the demand for Android-based tablets continues to grow and Samsung is proud to continue to lead this charge with the announcement of the GALAXY Note 8.0."
The official press release (via Phone Arena) also says that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will start selling from April 19 onwards through authorized national retailers, including Best Buy, Future Shop and Staples.
The 8-inch Galaxy Note 8 has a price tag of $429.99 at Best Buy and Future Shop. If compared to the 7.9-inch Apple iPad mini, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is over priced by $100. However, the lower price of the iPad mini also brings along a slightly smaller screen with 1024 x 768 resolution and a pixel density of 162ppi. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 sports an 8-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and a slightly higher pixel density of 189ppi.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 also has a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor. The tablet is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with Auto Focus and LED Flash. The device also has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 has 16/32GB of on-board storage and an option to expand that to a further 64GB. The tablet runs on Android 4.1.2 and a 4600 mAh battery powers the device.
With the competition heating up in the smaller tablet space, we will have to wait and see if the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is able to divert some customers' attention from the iPad mini.
