Though the only modern Star Wars shooter now may be Star Wars Battlefront, LucasArts was actually working on a Battlefront III before they were ultimately shut down by Disney. The original Battlefront II is still playable, and some modders have found a way to bring some elements of Battlefront III to the original game.
Battlefront III Beta
According to Kotaku, some developers are working on a mod for Battlefront II called Star Wars Battlefront III Legacy, and it will feature some new elements from the cancelled game like new maps and an updated HUD (heads-up display). What's more, players can finally transition from ground to space battles in one map - an element that the rebooted Battlefront fans felt was sorely missing.
As of now, the Battlefront III mod is still in the works, so it's not exactly working at a hundred percent. As of now, playable heroes include characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Aayla Secura, Durge, Assajj Ventress and Count Dooku. Two new maps are also available that will allow seamless travel from ground to space, one of which is the Neimoidian homeworld of Cato Neimoidia.
Star Wars Battlefront Now
A lot of fans were disappointed when LucasArts closed down since a lot of Star Wars games that were in development got cancelled all the same. Though the new Battlefront may look and sound fantastic, a lot of players are disappointed with the lack of single-player campaigns as well as galactic conquest mode. People also weren't happy with the new way players got to use heroes as compared to the original.
Hopefully, the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 will make fans happier after the disappointment that was the first Battlefront. This time around, the developers promise a single-player campaign as well as a storyline that will span "multiple eras." The game is rumored to be announced this coming EA Play 2017 on June 10-12.
