2005 was the last year that gamers saw a TimeSplitters game, but now a new teaser has just been released for TimeSplitters: Rewind. Though very little information has been given away from the teaser, fans can expect a next-gen upgrade for the classic franchise coming this 2017.
The teaser doesn't actually show much expect for a bunch of crystals and disembodied voices talking over the visuals, but a few details can be confirmed for TimeSplitters: Rewind. Apparently, the game is getting developed by Crytek and they will be using a game engine called CryEngine, and fans can expect a release within the year.
According to Game Rant, fans have already been searching for some sort of return from the TimeSplitters franchise, and they have even requested that the PS2 version of the games come playable through a PS4 emulator. The game was also set to become an exclusive for the PS4, but the developers were said to have some sort of technical issues when it came to getting permission for the game, so it's possible that TimeSplitters: Rewind will be available for the PC as well.
The game is said to be worked on by a team of part-time developers who have named themselves Cinder Interactive Arts. It's also possible that Rewind can be some sort of a remaster of the original TimeSplitters games or it could be an entirely new gameplay. Fans will just have to wait for the developers to reveal more about the game.
The first TimeSplitters game came out back in 2000 as a launch title for the PS2. The game was a first-person shooter that had players jumping around time, and the campaign spanned over a hundred years' worth of story. With Sony saying that they have some unannounced games in store last month, it's possible that TimeSplitters: Rewind could be one of those mystery titles. TimeSplitters: Rewind is set for a release this year.
