Americans Now More Concerned About Healthcare Than Terrorism

The majority of Americans are now more concerned about health care cost rather than terrorism or crime. According to a poll released on Tuesday by Monmouth University, more and more citizens say that health care is the primary concern facing their families right now. A quarter of the respondents say that President Trump's pledge to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as the Obamacare, is what's worrying them the most nowadays, according to the poll.

Monmouth researchers say that two years ago, the majority of the people were worried about health care costs together with other worries such as job security and household bills. But now, it comes out that health care has become more prominent in people's minds. It has even gotten to a point where they are more concerned about it than terrorist attacks.

The poll reports that 25 percent of Americans say that health care costs are the biggest concern they are facing with their families right now. Unemployment is a concern for 14 percent of the respondents, and everyday bills, at 12 percent. The new poll is a stark contrast from two years ago where only 15 percent were worried about health care costs, the TPM reports.

The poll by Monmouth University Polling Institute was conducted last Jan. 12-15. Results were gathered by land line and cell phone with 400 adults expressed their votes by land line and 401 by cell phone. Votes were then weighted for various variables such as region, age, education, gender and race.

The poll carries a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. According to the Sacramento Bee, the findings come as Republicans are working to replace Obamacare from 2010 without altering the health care coverage for around 20 million Americans. On Sunday, President Donald Trump have suggested that the issue could stretch into 2018, prompting some Americans to comment that pushing it into an election year would complicate the effort.
