Those looking to purchase an iPad can now score hefty discounts, as Apple has knocked down the prices of refurbished iPad 2 and iPad 3 models.
According to a Phone Arena report, the cellular versions of iPad 2 and iPad 3 are seeing a $50 reduction.
"The cellular versions of the iPad 2 and 3 are now getting the discount treatment by Apple, to the tune of $50 off, which is pretty significant for the company's habits," reports Phone Arena.
Recently, retailer Best Buy reduced the price of the 64GB Wi-Fi and Cellular version of the AT&T variant of the iPad 3 to $545.99, giving consumers a hefty discount of $234. At the time, Best Buy was also offering the 16GB Wi-Fi and Cellular version of the iPad 3 for $405.99, a discount of $174.
Retail chain Walmart, too, slashed the price of the 16GB Wi-Fi-only variant of the iPad mini in early April, to $299.99, which is $30 less than the usual price of the tablet.
Apple is offering discounts on both the AT&T and Verizon variants of the iPad 3 in black and white.
"Knocking the price off is for the refurbished units, and the iPad 2 + 3G will run you $349, while the iPad 3 + Cellular gets down to $409. Not bad, especially for the iPad 3, as you get the top-notch pixel-density, too. As usual, this will go while supplies last, so if you are interested, hit the source link, as you get a year of warranty from Apple, too," notes Phone Arena.
Speculation is rife that Apple will soon launch the fifth-gen iPad and second-gen iPad mini. The discounted prices have sparked conjecture that with the Apple product launch looming, retailers are looking to clear their old inventory and, therefore, the price drop.
