A McDonald's burger purchased nearly 15 years ago has retained its original shape and essentially still looks exactly the same as the day it was purchased back in 1999.
David Whipple from Utah originally purchased the McDonald's burger in order to show friends how well it keeps its composition after one month. But then Whipple forgot about the burger for two years, and discovered it still maintained the same consistency. Whipple decided to hold onto the preservative-laden burger in order to prove his point further.
"It wasn't on purpose," Whipple said on television show The Doctors in reference to Whipple's own website, aptly called "World's Oldest Burger." The website also contains plenty of other "vital" information folks might want to know about the burger that has kept its good looks over the years (and why that happened).
According to the Daily Mail, Whipple said that when his wife discovered the burger two years after he had used it in his initial month-long "experiment," she was as baffled as he at the fact the burger had remained essentially the same.
"[W]e pulled it out and said 'oh my gosh. I can't believe it looks the same way,' " Whipple said.
The burger has shown no signs of mold, fungus or even a "strange odor," so many years after having first been flipped on a greasy griddle. The age-old burger's pickle had "disintegrated," however.
Whipple even kept the original receipt from the burger purchase ($0.79) and now shows off the remarkable meal to his grandkids in order to warn them of the necessity of eating healthy.
"It's great for my grand-kids to see ... what happens with fast food," he said.
The "World's Oldest Burger" allegedly landed a $2,000 bid on eBay, according to the Dixie Sun News, but Whipple has decided to continue holding on to it for "educational value."
