When the Nintendo 3DS came out, it promised a revolutionary way of gaming and that people from any age bracket would be able to enjoy this handheld device. The beloved device has produced some of the gaming world's best games that people can bring and play anywhere. However, as the impending release of the highly anticipated and well received Nintendo Switch is nearing, fans and owners of the Nintendo 3DS couldn't help but feel nervous that their beloved handheld device might be the next thing to be phased out.
Although the Nintendo Switch is set to be released on March 3, 2017, players shouldn't worry about a thing with regards to the Nintendo 3DS, as Nintendo themselves has assured that there would be continued support and development for the 3DS.
Nintendo On The 3DS
Tatsumi Kimishima, President of Nintendo, stated in a document at an investor meeting, that the company will continue on developing games for the last handheld device (3DS) of theirs. He also continues on saying in the document that Nintendo will continue on introducing new games that the gaming community can enjoy on the 3DS systems.
Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo America, in an interview says that the company's intention is for the systems (3DS and 2DS) to go side by side with the upcoming Nintendo Switch. This comment further strengthens Kimishima's statement of Nintendo's promise that players and owners of a 3DS would be able to enjoy the device for a long time.
To make things better, Tatsumi Kimishima, in an article by Polygon, says that Nintendo has heard rumors that the Nintendo Switch would be replacing the Nintendo 3DS as these two devices are both handheld and can be brought anywhere. However, Kimishima further states that the Nintendo 3DS has a unique characteristic that is different from the Nintendo Switch, and that while these two may share some common traits, the price and gaming experience are different and that the company doesn't see these two platforms as competitors against each other.
What To Expect For The Nintendo 3DS
True to his word that Nintendo is continually developing games, Tatsumi Kimishima, revealed some titles in development for the 3DS such as Ever Oasis, Fire Emblem Heroes: Shadows of Valentia, Mario Sports Superstarts, and Pikmin. He goes on to mention also that there are multitudes of unnamed titles that are in development.
Nintendo is a big example, that if a company truly loves their consumers, they are willing to go the extra mile. Whatever Nintendo plans in the future for its consoles and devices, hopefully, it would be for the gaming community's best interests.
