Valentine's Day Meme Gets Your Heart Pumping

Cardiologists at Saint Luke’s Hospital created hilarious Valentine's Day meme to remind everyone to take care of their hearts while they celebrate the romantic day. These memes will get your heart pumping the right way as they give out helpful tips on how to celebrate the day while reducing heart disease. The timing of the memes are perfect since February is also American Heart Month.

“We wanted to find a creative way to help patients see the light-hearted and caring nature of these expert physicians while also sharing the important message of heart disease prevention," Rebecca Sesler, vice president of marketing at Saint Luke’s Health System, writes in an email. She also explains that the Valentine's Day meme is the hospital's way of encouraging the community to take control of their health to prevent serious heart issues in the future. Currently, Saint Luke’s is one of the top 20 cardiology programs in the country with notable cardiologists and surgeons who treat the most complex and challenging heart issues every day, the My Central Oregon reports.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, the hospital explains. It kills more than 370,000 Americans every year. More women die from it annually than from all cancers combined, and it strikes Americans every 42 seconds, the ABC News reports.

However, it is largely preventable. People can easily modify their lifestyle to suit a more heart-friendly one. According to a hospital spokesperson, the risk for heart disease could be cut by 95 percent just by adopting six simple lifestyle changes.

The six easy lifestyle changes include eating non-processed foods, not smoking, drinking in moderation, maintaining a healthy body weight and being active. Cardiologists are currently emphasizing the importance of moving every 30 minutes to encourage being active and have a healthy heart. These lifestyle changes are the highlights of the Valentine's Day meme.
