‘Supergirl’ Season 2: Is Lena Luthor Friend Or Foe?

"Supergirl" has an intriguing character, and many people do not know what to make of her. Lena Luthor is the half-sister of Lex, and she succeeded him in being the CEO of L-Corp after his incarceration. She is a friend of both Kara Danvers and her alter-ego, Supergirl. But, is she really an ally?

Supergirl's Friends Think Lena Is Just Another Luthor

Entertainment Weekly said that Kara has faith in Lena, and even though it seems like Lena was responsible for taking Lillian out of jail, Kara is giving her friend the benefit of the doubt. But because of his infamous brother, the rest of the Supergirl team clearly thinks Lena is just another Luthor.

According to A.V. Club, it's not yet clear if Kara's faith in her friend is a strength or a weakness in "Supergirl" Season 2. However, fans are concerned that Kara is going to make the same mistake that Clark did. Also, the final scene gave fans some serious doubt about whether Lena is really innocent like she claims.

Is It Going To Be "Nature Versus Nurture"?

"Supergirl" executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg said that Lena's journey in the series features whether Kara is right to trust her. Kreisberg added that Lena is truly a Luthor by blood, and the audience's perception of the name "Luthor" mirrors the character's perception. "Are we who others think we are? Are we who we want to be? She's not adopted, she's actually truly a Luthor by blood, and is it nature vs. nurture?" he added.

Kreisberg said that even Superman did not trust Lena. The difference between Clark and Kara is that Superman is a little jaded after doing this for so long, while Kara is still "wide-eyed and fresh-faced and still believes in the goodness in people." He added that Kara's belief in Lena is enough to overcome the corrupting influence of Lillian in the plot of "Supergirl" Season 2.
