‘The Bachelorette' Announces First African-American Lead, Rachel Lindsay

Jimmy Kimmel just spoiled the fun when he and Chris Harrison announced the new lead for the popular reality dating show, “The Bachelorette”. They have revealed that Rachel Lindsay will be the new star of the show in the new season. This was a surprise because having Rachel as the new bachelorette has spoiled the current and ongoing “The Bachelor” show.

Jimmy Kimmel went on to introduce Rachel Lindsay and said that it was safe to state the obvious that Rachel’s date with Nick Viall on “The Bachelor” Season 21 did not go as planned. Rachel happened to be one of the contenders for the heart of Nick in the said show. Rachel is still on “The Bachelor” and she said that there are a couple of weeks of filming to go.

Rachel admitted that she was pretty surprised when ABC decided to make her the star of “The Bachelorette” Season 13. At first, she thought the idea was brought to her just so the show can console her heartbreak but turns out, ABC was not kidding around when they really offered the show to her. She said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that she is ready to fall in love, ready to find a husband and even encouraged viewers to step up and try out for the show or recommend someone they know who would be interested in her.

Rachel being the new lead in “The Bachelorette” is a milestone for the show because she is the first ever African-American bachelorette on the show. Fans and public figures like Whoopi Goldberg have shown their disappointment towards the show before for not being racially diverse. Aside from making history for being the first black bachelorette on the show, Rachel actually is quite the woman as she is a lawyer and is already the fan favorite in the current season of “The Bachelor”. Rachel will star in "The Bachelorette" Season 13 and it will premiere this May 22.
