The Galaxy Note 8 was just released recently, but Samsung is continuing its all-out assault on Apple and the iPad with the Galaxy Tab 3.
The Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab 3 was officially revealed by Samsung on Monday, and the new tablet will be going on sale sometime in May. No specific price point or release date was announced, but Samsung also confirmed that a 3G version would get a release date in June.
According to Samsung's press release, the Galaxy Tab 3 sports a 7-inch screen featuring a 1024 x 600 resolution and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. The slate also packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and a Lithium-ion 4,000 mAh battery.
These specs may not seem too impressive, compared to the Galaxy Note 8, but it's likely the Galaxy Tab 3 will aim for more budget-conscious consumers. It also doesn't feature S Pen support or multi-window displays, but as an upside, it should clock in well below the $400 the Note 8 is retailing for (maybe even closer to $200). After all, if you're not in need of a stylus for art/design purposes then you might not want to fork over Samsung's asking price for the Note 8. If that's the case, the Galaxy Tab 3 might be right up your alley.
We'll have more information once pricing and release dates are announced. Here's what Samsung had to say about the Tab 3's evolution:
- Easy Handgrip and Portability: Its compact, one-hand grip form factor ensures users can hold it comfortably for hours as well as store in a pocket or small bag for reading and entertainment on the go. The sleek and stylish design encompasses a thinner bezel than the previous GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0).
- Better Multimedia Performance: Powered by a 1.2GHz Dual Core processor, the device allows for faster downloads and sharing, while providing easy access to videos, apps, games, and the Web. Offered with either 8/16 of internal storage plus up to 64GB of expandable memory, the device has plenty of space to hold your favorite photos, music, apps, videos and more.
- Enhanced User Experience: The GALAXY Tab 3 7-inch is equipped to better capture life's moments in stunning clarity and resolution with its 3-megapixel camera rear camera and 1.3 -megapixel front camera. Combined with the latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), it allows users to share photos, videos, and life's special moments through a few quick taps and swipes.
