Warner Bros: Mel Gibson Eyed To Direct DC 'Suicide Squad' Sequel

After a decade of being banned by Hollywood after being detained for drunk driving and making anti-Semitic commentaries, Mel Gibson has made an unbelievable comeback, even being voted for an Oscar. As such, the Hacksaw Ridge director and former Mad Max is allegedly being courted by Warner Bros. to direct the next chapter of Suicide Squad. And yes, it is!

The Hollywood Reporter broke the silence, detailing how no official offer has been made but that Gibson is currently acquainting himself with the movie.

Mel Gibson Possibly Direct Suicide Squad Sequel

"So, is this getting close to a deal or is it a first date?" the director was asked, to which he responded: "It's kind of a first date." Fascinatingly, Gibson recently called Warner Bros. other 2016 hero film Batman v Superman "is a piece of sh*t," adding: "I'm not involving myself. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book hero is? Real superheroes don't wear colorful spandex."

Has Gibson reassessed the offer? Deciding not to put all their eggs in one basket, the studio is also looking to other directors, including Daniel Espinosa, who's next film Life stars Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Suicide Squad 2 Will Be Out Of Questioning

The first Suicide Squad - which starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto - was directed by David Ayer and grossed $745 million worldwide despite undesirable reviews. Ayer is currently working on a spin-off of Gotham City Sirens, a female-focused villain skim that will once again highlight Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Gibson being asked to direct no doubt comes off the back of the Oscar-nominated Hacksaw Ridge, which starred Andrew Garfield in the important role.

The actor/director has found himself with abundant work offers in Hollywood, including crime thriller Dragged Across Concrete, which will see him in tandem with Vince Vaughn.
