Post workout recovery is important in any workout routine. This gives the body the chance to heal as well as to grow. The study has found that carbohydrate intake during or after workouts can help the immune system.

Taking in carbohydrate during or after workout would stabilize blood sugar levels. This would mean that stress is lessened. Lead author Dr. Jonathan Peake from Queensland University of Technology has said that more research is needed if it could also lessen infections and illnesses.

Exercise has benefits, as it can increase and decrease immune cells in the blood. However, Dr. Peake said that there is no evidence that exercise without enough for the immune system to recover can lead to a weakened immune system. White blood cells are not destroyed as commonly believed, but move to different parts of the body.

A workout is a form of stress on the body. This has been known by those who workout with weights. Lifting weight can produce micro tears in muscles, which are needed for muscle growth. These micro tears is a form of stress, though the body can sufficiently recover from such stress with nutrition and rest.

While the body can recover from workout stress, vigorous workout would need a longer recovery time, according to the Queensland University of Technology's site. An intense workout can make the body vulnerable to infection, as explained by Dr. Peake. Study co-author Dr. Oliver Neubauer has said that carbohydrate intake is needed by people who had an intense workout, or for those who had a long 90 minute workout.

30 to 60 grams of carbohydrate is needed during or after workouts for good recovery, as Science Daily reports. This would aid in normal immune system function. The researchers though have said that there is no evidence to have immune boosting supplements after workouts.

Nutrition is essential in any good workout. Carbohydrate intake during workouts can help in recovery. A study has found that an aggressive blood pressure control can lower death rates.
