Instagram debuted as an exclusive app for iOS in 2010 and then made its appearance on Android devices in 2012. Now reports indicate that Instagram may soon be available on Windows Phone devices and the rumored Nokia Lumia 928 will be the first Windows phone to include the app.
"There is a new rumor emerging from our sources that Microsoft is planning to release few popular apps/games on Windows Phone soon. Along with the launch of Nokia Lumia 928 on Verizon, Microsoft is planning to release Instagram app for Windows Phone devices," reports WMPowerUser.
Windows Phone smartphone manufacturers are pushing hard for the Facebook-owned photo-sharing service to make an appearance on the latest operating system. If rumors are to be believed, then it's not long until the Nokia Lumia 928 to make its appearance. Various rumors indicate a launch date of either May 15 or May 22 for the device.
A previous rumor indicates that Nokia plans to bring Instagram to its upcoming phones. A tweet from Nokia also hints the potential for Instagram in its upcoming devices on a Facebook post.
Instagram, the online photo-sharing and social networking service enables its users to take pictures, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook or Twitter.
Currently, if you are a Nokia Windows Phone user and want to show Instagram then you can sign up for #2InstaWithLove, which is made by Nokia. The app lets users take filtered pictures and automatically adds the hashtag. The app isn't as developed as Instagram but it shows how much Windows Phone users want Instagram on their handsets.
We will have to wait and see how swiftly Instagram debuts on Windows Phone handsets.
