Xiaomi will showcase its "Pinecone" processor next week in Beijing, China, on Feb. 28. The Chinese tech giant unveiled the invitation to the Beijing National Convention Centre on Weibo via a poster, which also revealed that Xiaomi has no plans of attending Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona.
Pinecore Chipset
Xiaomi is collaborating with Leadcore to achieve the SoC innovation. Leadcore is owned by China's Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group, which is known for its custom-designed processor.
The Chinese company is said to have been taking a shot at Pinecone for more than two years. The said SoC will come in two versions, which will have model numbers V670 and V970. The Xiaomi Mi 5c is reported to also launch along with the new processor, which is powered by the lower V670 model.
The V670 will utilize the four Cortex-A53 large cores and four Cortex A-53 small cores. Its graphics-processing unit (GPU) is composed of the Mali-T860 MP4 GPU with a clock speed of 800MHz, and will be using a 28 nm manufacturing process.
Xiaomi Mi 5c Codenamed 'Meri'
According to Android Central, Xiaomi Mi 5c will be the first device to be powered by Pinecone SoC. The smartphone has a codename "Meri." The upcoming smartphone comes with 2.2 Ghz octa-core CPU.
Xiaomi Meri will have an active noise cancellation with dedicated mic. It has an A-GPS with GLONASS and BDS. It comes with Type-C 1.0 reversible connector and a dual-band, which can be directly connected to Wi-Fi and hotspot. The upcoming smartphone features a fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, proximity, compass and gyro, as per GSM Arena.
The Xiaomi Mi 5c has 13 MP camera with an autofocus LED flash. It also comes with Geo-tagging, face detection and HDR. It also features panorama and an excellent video quality. The secondary camera will be 5 MP. It also will also feature 3 GB RAM and might run on Android 7.1.1.
