Sauber Motorsport AG just unveiled its anniversary car for 2017 - the C36 Ferrari. This makes it the first Formula One Team to reveal its car this year.
The Sauber C36 Ferrari is the team's 25th-anniversary car. It sports a blue, white and gold livery which is slightly different from last year's blue, white and more yellowish livery. BBC also noted a few other differences between the C36-Ferrari and last year's C35-Ferrari. The newer version has a delta-shaped front wing while the rear wing is lower and wider. The C-36 also has bigger tires than its predecessor.
The C36 Ferrari is expected to be faster when turning corners, thanks to an improved floor area. The floor area was increased from 1.8 to 2 meters which will allow the car to increase downforce. Fox Sports also noted that the tires are 25 percent bigger while the diffuser was also made bigger. The alterations were made to increase the downforce to an estimated 30 percent more. The grip also improved drastically thus providing the Ferrari better aerodynamic stability. It will use a 2016 Ferrari engine which is preferred for its reliability plus the fact that the team started developing the car with the specs of the 2017 engine not yet a done deal.
The Swiss F1 Team hasn't had a good run lately with the team finishing second to the last among 11 teams last season. Jorg Zander, Sauber's new technical director and formerly the technical chief of Audi, will lend his experience and expertise in helping Sauber improve on its 10th place finish in 2016. Zander expressed that the team's objective is to "establish [itself] in the midfield" which he considers a realistic and reachable goal.
The world of Formula One received a shocker as 2016 ended when champion Nico Rosberg suddenly retired from the sport. The young Rosberg came upon the decision after accomplishing his childhood dream of winning the F1 title. With Rosberg gone, Sauber and driver Marcus Ericsson will have a better chance to place higher this year.
